Across the busy streets of Dhaka, many hardworking people struggle every day just to earn enough to feed their families. A small boost in their livelihood can make the difference between constant hardship and a stable life. This project brings together three vulnerable individuals who are trying their best to support their families through small roadside businesses, despite age, disability, and extremely limited resources. Ms. Komola Bala, an 80-year-old vegetable seller from Gendaria, continues to work every day to support her household. At an age when most people depend on others for care, she still carries vegetables to the market to earn a small income. With very little capital and declining physical strength, she struggles to generate enough profit to meet basic living needs. Mr. Mohammad Liton, who runs a small tea stall with his wife, also faces severe challenges. Living with a disability in one leg, long hours of standing and serving customers are physically difficult. Their tea stall is the family’s only source of income, yet limited capital keeps their earnings extremely small. Mr. Mizan Sheikh, a vegetable vendor from Shyampur, is the sole provider for his wife and two children, including a daughter who attends school. Despite having a disability in one leg, he continues to work every day selling vegetables. However, because he can only buy very small quantities of stock, his daily income remains unstable and often insufficient to support his family. Through this project, IUT Alumni Lighthouse Limited aims to provide a small working-capital boost to each of these individuals, helping them increase their stock, improve their daily sales, and create more stable income for their families. This is not charity that creates dependency — it is support that strengthens dignity and self-reliance. A small amount of support can help these hardworking people continue their efforts to care for their families, keep children in school, and live with dignity.
