Monjel Fokir is a hardworking man from Rajbari, Bangladesh, who once earned his living as a bricklayer. Several years ago, he suffered a serious injury to his right hand while doing heavy construction work. Despite undergoing treatment for more than six years, his hand never fully recovered. Today, Monjel can only do light work and survives on small agricultural jobs with irregular and limited income. He is the only earning member of his family, supporting his elderly mother, his wife, and two young children—a son and a daughter. Although Monjel owns a small piece of land, his family currently lives in unsafe and poor housing conditions that offer little protection from weather, rain, or storms. He does not have the financial means to build a durable and secure home for his family. IUT Lighthouse aims to raise funds to build a simple, safe, and permanent house on Monjel’s own land, giving his family security, dignity, and stability. The house will provide protection from harsh weather, create a healthy living environment, and allow the family to focus on recovery, education, and sustainable livelihood rather than daily survival. All funds raised will be used transparently for construction materials, labour, and essential structural work. IUT Lighthouse will monitor the project to ensure proper use of donations and timely completion of the house.
